Vandaag hebben de justitiële autoriteiten een inval gedaan bij de woning van de veroordeelde en voortvluchtige voormalige president van Suriname, Desi Bouterse. Bij de woning in Leonsberg werd Bouterse niet aangetroffen. Deze inval is onderdeel van de inspanningen van de Surinaamse justitiële autoriteiten om de veroordeelde oud-president op te sporen en te arresteren. Bouterse is eerder veroordeeld vanwege zijn betrokkenheid bij de Decembermoorden. Naast de nationale opsporing is Bouterse ook internationaal gesignaleerd. Taking its cue from Guyana, which is earning nearly $7 million daily from offshore oil production, the government in neighboring Suriname says it will give every citizen living in the country a cash grant of US$750.00 each from future oil revenues.
